Last week in Weymouth 4 CLYC sailors took part in the British Topper Nationals against 250 of the best Sailors in GB and Ireland. Anna McNulty was in particularly good form finishing in 21st Overall, Conor Quinn also sailing well in the Gold Fleet. Stephen Finnegan and Tom O'Hare also gave a good account of themselves in the Silver and Bronze fleets respectively. Hopes are high for good results at the RYANI youth nationals in September ….No Pressure Guys!
Meanwhile back in CLYC sailing was cancelled on Wednesday as the Lough was like a millpond. However on Sunday the wind was blowing a good force 4 from the west. Kieran and Brian Cranley with Conor O'Reilly and others officiated at the Second Glenny Cup. The course took the fleet almost to Warrenpoint after a dog leg to Rostrevor. Rooney and McDonagh in the Buzz led all the way as usual but their heavy handicap (some would say Rooney is enough of a handicap) let the McLaughlins take the silver by a margin of over a minute. Chris O'Hare has come out of retirement recently and is showing his old style. It's only a matter of time before he gets a result. Steve Eccles was also sighted in the Laser 2 - no doubt secret practice for the Regatta on 31st August.
Cruiser Racing took place last Saturday in the absence of Chris Cassidy, allowing the rest of the fleet some crumbs. Mick McCann and Gerry Byrne shared a bullet each with Don Campbell taking two seconds putting him narrowly ahead of Mick McCann for the Mid Season Trophy.
