Cruiser Racing Saturday 27th July
On Saturday there were 3 races at Warrenpoint for the John Donnelly Memorial Cup. Cruisers from Warrenpoint Boat Club, Rostrevor Boat Club, Carlingford Sailing Club and CLYC Killowen battled it out in a warm 20 knot wind - it was fantastic sailing in perfect conditions. It turned out that the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were taken by the Three MIchaels:
Results:
Race 1: 1st Aurora - Michael O'Hare (CLYC); 2nd Humdinger - Michael McCabe (CSC); 3rd MaxiMeyes - Mick McCann (CLYC)
Race 2: 1st Aurora - Michael O'Hare (CLYC); 2nd Humdinger - Michael McCabe (CSC); 3rd MaxiMeyes - Mick McCann (CLYC)
Race 3: 1st Aurora - Michael O'Hare (CLYC); 2nd Humdinger - Michael McCabe (CSC); 3rd MaxiMeyes - Mick McCann (CLYC)
The John Donnelly Cup was presented to Michael O'Hare and crew by the late John Donnelly's son Bill.
The Fiddlers Green Race - Sunday 28-Jul-13
This annual race, to accompany the celebrations closing the Rostrevor Fiddlers Green Festival, took place as usual in Rostrevor Bay. David Corkey and Ian Roche were the Race Committee and they laid a perfect triangular course. The wind, however was heavy and punishing, particularly around the Woodhouse corner, and there were casualties in the form of a capsize by Andy Browne and David Hicks, losing them a place or two, and a fatal capsize by Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh, just as they tacked for the last straight to the finish, forcing them to retire. First time sailing for a long time, Chris O'Hare came 3rd, a great performance by Anna McNulty brought her a 2nd place, and Henry McLaughlin Junior once more grabbed the number one place.
Newcastle SC Dinghy Regatta
There was some representation of CLYC Killowen at Newcastle Sailing Club's Dinghy Regatta on Saturday, and by all accounts, the elderly McLaughlin team did themselves proud. We're hoping that Newcastle sailors will attend CLYC's dinghy regatta on the 3-Aug/1-Sep weekend.
