Rooney Loses Heart

Last Sunday Paul McParland took charge of the CLYC fleet for race five of the Frostbite Series, setting a windward-leeward course in the bitingly cold easterly wind. Most of the B Fleet were away at training so it was an A Fleet only race. Andy Browne and Diane Burgess got the best start of the lot although that wasn’t saying much.

Some time later Connla Conway (replacing a resting Paddy Rooney) and Catherine McDonagh crossed the line ahead of Philip O'Connor. Browne led the race until the second windward mark when a downwind error let Conway slip into the lead. Commodore O'Connor was meanwhile inspecting the seabed, obviously unable to wait until Christmas day for a swim! The pecking order remained unchanged at the finish. Certainly Paddy Rooney will take no heart from his crew winning a race with a new helm, he will need to shape up for the new season.

A letter just in from the north pole confirms that Santa will be stopping at the Club on Sunday 16th at 4pm, and the usual arrangements will apply. There is an unconfirmed rumour that the CLYC choir may make a debut performance.

Andy Browne and Diane Burgess snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
