McLaughlins blow the dinghy Early Series

Sunday’s racing saw the wind direction rotating through 180 degrees and back again, but nevertheless two exciting races were had by the dinghy A and B-Fleets.

Andy Browne and Diane Burgess winning Race 1 in style

In Race 1 Andy and Diane led the whole fleet by a comfortable margin. That’s the second race in a row that they managed to finish ahead of Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh, so they seem to have the boat nicely in tune for a hot summer.

Ian Roche won Race 2, putting Paddy and Catherine once more in second place. However, Henry and Liz McLaughlin’s absence on Sunday allowed their narrow lead in the Early Series, to be taken away by Rooney and McDonagh by less than half a point, the final results being

1. Rooney and McDonagh
2. Henry and Liz McLaughlin
3. Kieran and Brian Cranley

In the B-fleet Conor Quinn and Stephen Finnegan swapped first and second places between Race 1 and Race 2. The outcome of the 13-race Early Series being

1. Conor Quinn
2. Kate MacAdorey
3. Stephen Finnegan

Next weekend the Ulster Topper Championships will be held at CLYC, so there will be no Club racing. The Early Wednesdays, however continue, and the Mid Season begins on Sunday the 1st of July.
