The weekend of 15th, 16th and 17th of June saw the arrival of a fleet of eight Drascombe sailing boats at Killowen, to enjoy the facilities of Carlingford Lough Yacht Club and the sailing on Carlingford Lough.
Drascombes from England, Scotland and Wales arrived in addition to boats from all over Ireland. Saturday's wind presented a challenging sail from Blockhouse Island to Killowen but when all boats were anchored in the shelter of Killowen spit, a hungry and thirsty bunch of sailors devoured all the food provided at the club by Cafe Eclipse.
Sunday saw a day of gentle sailing on the Lough with a pleasant stop at Omeath for lunch.
Five of the boats set off from Killowen on the Monday for a cruise in company to Strangford Lough, calling at Narrow Water, Victoria Lock, Carlingford, Greencastle, Kilkeel, Annalong, Dundrum, Ardglass and Audley Roads.
The fleet enjoyed the good will of the local people at every stop and the organisers of these events would like to to extend their thanks to all concerned.
