Newly Promoted race officer Helen McParland took charge last Wednesday and ran an excellent windward /leeward race. In the A Fleet even a last minute charge from Burgess/Brown was not enough to stop McLaughlin Junior from winning. However it was not enough to prevent his ageing relics from taking the Early Wednesday series overall, denying Rooney/McDonagh from yet more silver after they recently claimed the Early Season trophy by just 10 points.
In the B Fleet the Early Wednesdays finished with a one, two, three for Conor Quinn, Stephen Finnegan and Anna McNulty who all head to Waterford this week for the Topper Nationals. Quinn finished the season off with yet another bullet.
Sunday Sailing
Osmond Morris and Ian Finnegan had a difficult task, course setting with apparently circular wind causing course setting difficulties in the extreme. The Cranleys got the best start in race one but lost it at the last windward mark after finding a hole in the wind which allowed the McLaughlins and James McNulty to take the inside line and steal their thunder. Jim Linton took third by a hair from David Gilfedder.
Conor Quinn appears to be in top form with two wins, leaving Matthew Collins and David Corkey to take a second and third apeice. Hopefully this bodes well for this weekend at the Nationals.
Summer Courses start this week and are filling up quickly so see info@clyc.info for details.
