McKay Hot in Frostbite Series

With a bracing wind from the west gusting to force four, Race Officer Tim (plenty of wind ) Gibbons and able assistants John White, Terry Rafferty and Colm Kernan lost no time in setting a challenging course. With the wind chill giving an apparent temperature of –4C sailors were to say the least slow to launch much to the irritation of the race officer.

Michael O’Hare and Osmond Morris got the best start ahead of Ian Roche and Helen McParland. They rounded the windward mark, hoisted their jennaker and were never seen again till in the bar afterwards. The other Laser 2000 crewed by the McLaughlins came to grief with a stuck jennaker leaving them in 3rd place. Roche was robbed of third place by an untimely ice bath at the last gybe mark. This result leaves the Morris Men ahead in the series overall and they may be hard to shift.

The B Fleet race was contested between Stephen McKay and Kate MacAdorey in Laser 4.7s. McKay was well ahead at the line to take first but a solid second leaves MacAdorey still in contention for the overall. Stephen Finnegan who took third place in his Topper now sits in series pole position 2 points clear of MacAdorey. However with two races left to sail anything can happen.
Santa has confirmed his availability for Sunday 18th December. See the Club web site for details of this and other Christmas activities.
