Michael O’Hare and Osmond Morris on form.
With wind anywhere from Force 1 to Force 4, and coming from any direction except the one you expected, it was a tough job for Connla Magennis to set the course on a day when the Frostbite Series finally lived up to its name.
In the A Fleet, despite a poor start Michael O’Hare and trusty crew member Osmond Morris took full advantage of local knowledge (and a large shift) to lead the race from the first windward mark to the finish. The Cranley brothers tried hard to catch up, but Kieran just can’t get the speed out of Brian these days. Meanwhile somewhere at the rear of the fleet, series leaders the McLaughlins managed to find every adverse shift and tide in an unusually poor performance. Star of the race was however Helen McParland in the Laser Radial who lost to O’Hare on handicap by only 3 seconds.
In The B Fleet, Paul McParland, for some reason in a Laser 4.7, took pole position from Stephen McKay. McKay now leads the series with his sister Rachel in second place and Trudy O’Hare in third.
With only 3 races left in the series get your woolly hat and gloves out for a sail next Sunday and get a bit of practice before the Mince Pie race on the 26th December. Rumour has it that Santa may make a quick visit to the club soon so watch the web site for details.
