The Whistledown Hotel in Warrenpoint was the venue for CLYC’s Annual Dinner Dance and Presentation last Saturday night.
After a sumptuous feast, the Commodore thanked Club Secretary Kieran Cranley, Sailing Secretary Philip O’Connor and his wife Siobhan, RYA Principal Chris O’Hare and his wife Cathy and all his committee for their hard work throughout the year. He drew attention to the fact that not only was CLYC represented at all the major World and National events in the Topper and Laser classes this year, but yet another 5 club juniors have gained coveted places on the RYANI youth and Junior squads. These achievements were only made possible by the hard work and commitment of the club's officers and volunteers. To continue this success new blood is needed on the committee and to this end he reminded all gathered about the AGM at 4pm on 20th November.
Connla Conway then presented the cruiser prizes including a trophy to Dan Gamble in recognition of his contribution to cruiser sailing at the club over the years.
Sailing Secretary Philip O’Connor thanked his many helpers throughout the year and presented the remaining prizes including the coveted Lyon Trophy to Patrick Rooney and Catherine McDonagh for the fourth time. In his acceptance speech Paddy commented on his delight at seeing the fleet in his rear view mirror yet again. Full results are available on the club web site.
The night continued with much (bad) dancing to the sound of “The Brokers”.
Yet again sailing was cancelled on Sunday with winds gusting to force 7. Surely it must improve soon or we will have to start indoor sailing!
