DINGHY NEWS - Cranley's Mojo Lost and found. Rooney still searching.
David Corkey sailing well in the sun
Conditions were perfect last Sunday with sunshine and a steady force 3 breeze from the east. With Tim MacAdorey in charge what could go wrong?
The first race was fought to the last mark between the Cranley brothers and the McLaughlins. Just when they were ready to make their final assault and as they rounded the last mark, Kieran decided a quick swim was in order. Brian who never disagrees with his skipper obliged and over they went! Unfortunately in the ensuing fracas the tiller extension came adrift, put paid to their racing for the day and left the McLaughlins with an easy run to the line. This allowed Rooney and McDonagh who had been floundering in third to steal an ill-deserved second place.
The second race was over by the first mark, with Rooney magnetically attracted to the southern shore McLaughlin had a leg of a lead established in no time. Rafferty and McKevitt had a great start and put Rooney under serious pressure in the early stages but the money was on Finnegan and Hughes for third Laser 2000.
In the B Fleet Tiarnan Conway ran away with both races leaving Ciaran O’Farrell in second. The Toppers were closely fought with Tom O’Hare and Stephen Finnegan using the full size rigs for the first time against Kate MacAdorey and David Corkey who came to grief with a capsize just before the start in the second race.
The Orr Trophy series continues on Tuesdays nights, with the normal racing on Wednesday nights and a beginners' course all this week with Top Instructor Finn Bradley specially imported.
