Rooney/McDonagh Take the Buzz to Glenny Victory.
Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh “Buzzing” along
Head Coach Chris O’Hare returns from retirement.
Last Sunday the second Glenny race to Warrenpoint was held. For such an auspicious race only the most experienced race officer would do and Connla Conway fitted the bill, aided and abetted by Tiernan Conway, Jim Linton, Adrian Hand and Liz McLaughlin.
With a nice force three from the west Connla set a perfect start line with the windward mark to starboard. Chris O’Hare, just out of sailing retirement carried on where he left off with some argy bargy between him and Tim Gibbons on the line. O’Hare came off worst being forced over the line with Conor O’Farrell before the start and having to return.
Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh in their new Topper Buzz zoomed ahead early and despite a rear guard action from the Cranley Boys, finished 5 minutes clear of the field, winning despite a heavy handicap.
Conor O’Farrell sailed well in the Topper to take third place ahead of Tim Gibbons, as did Stephen Finnegan who was right behind him.
The Mid Season presentation takes place next Saturday after a 5pm race and a barbeque. See the web site for details.
There are still some places left on the sailing courses this summer so get your application into Cathy O’Hare soon.
