Cranley Boys Crack it at Last

Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh continued their run of form on Saturday last and sailed away with the O’Farrell Cup. Tim Gibbons has yet to recover last year's form and had to settle for second. Connor O’Farrell sailed well to take third.
At the BBQ and presentation that night along with the O’Farrell Cup, Rooney and McDonagh picked up the 2nd Glenny Cup. Henry McLaughlin Junior took the early Wednesday series and Dara O’Connor the B Fleet Early Season trophy. Brian and Kieran Cranley collected the Ulster Savings Trophy.

On Sunday the sea looked deceptively calm but the offshore breeze was too strong for some and rescue crews were kept busy with capsizes. Brian and Kieran Cranley, in first place when they capsized under spinnaker, fell to the back of the fleet but showed great resolve by overtaking the whole fleet to take their second bullet of the day. Perhaps this is a start of a return to form by this very experienced crew?

Sailing courses start next Monday with a beginner's course, there are still a few places left. See www.clyc.info for details. Orr Trophy junior training continues on Tuesday nights and now that the exam season is over, a big turnout is expected.
