Light southerly winds and short triangular courses over three races made for close and at times very close racing!! Race officer James Byrne (CSC) assisted by Kieran Cranley (CLYC) took advantage of a high tide and set a course which gave spectators on the seafront a close-hand view of competing cruisers rounding the leeward mark positioned 50 meters from the back of the Old Baths. A wind shift resulted in a course change for Race three.
“Gannet” skippered by Brian McCann took line honours in two races but on handicap it was “Atlantic Diva” skippered by Gerry Byrne and crewed by Sean Tinnelly who took first overall, to win the coveted Whistledown Trophy. ”Gannet” was close second with Chris Cassidy’s “Synergy” taking third.
Main sponsor Colm McEvoy presented the trophies at a prizegiving on the patio of the Whistledown Hotel.
Warrenpoint Harbour Authority provided the Maid of Clonallon as committee boat and CEO, Peter Conway thanked the organisers of the event over ten years and offered the continued support of WHA for the inter club event.
