Hicks and Matthews Snatch Defeat from the Mouth of Victory

Wednesday Racing
David Hicks and Colin Matthews had a flying start in last Wednesday's race and led right to the last windward mark when they changed a winning strategy and went for the outside line instead of staying in. Henry McLaughlin Junior saw the mistake and leapfrogged into first place. In the B Fleet Matthew McNulty got his best result this season chasing his sister Anna for second place.

Sunday Racing
In the A fleet Dara O'Connor took pole position by just 3 seconds over a new combination in the Laser 2000 with McLaughlin Junior and Anna Gilfedder beating a lonely Paddy Rooney in a Laser Standard. Rooney recovered in Race 2 with a bullet just ahead of the Cranley boys who are taking hideous advantage of missing crews to garner points.

The B Fleet saw Conor Quinn and Stephen Finnegan take a bullet and a second apiece with Anna McNulty having to settle for two thirds. The two Matthews - Collins and McNulty - sailed well to take fourth and fifth in each race.

Cruiser Report
The Mourne Trophy was sailed last Saturday. There was a ding-dong the whole way to Kilkeel between Maximeyes, Synergy and Atlantic Diva with places being swapped on multiple occasions, especially between the Helly Hunter and Kilkeel. This a CLYC trophy so although Gerry Byrne took line honours, Chris Cassidy collected the silver.

1st: Gerry Byrne & John Gray in Atlantic Diva
2nd: Chris Cassidy & Pat Dunbar in Synergy
3rd: Mick McCann & Michael McAteer in Maximeyes

New Instructors qualify
Congratulations to Paul McParland, Stephen McKay and James McNulty who were all successful in their RYA instructor course last week.
