Last Saturday afternoon the CLYC Pennant race was hotly contested. The McLaughlins took brutal advantage of a collision between Rooney/McDonagh and McLaughlin Junior and then held the lead to the last windward mark, losing on the water by only one second, happy in the knowledge that the handicap would correct matters. James McNulty was sailing well to take 3rd and Matthew Collins was 1st B Fleet home just ahead of Dara O'Connor.
After a barbeque, Sailing Secretary Philip O'Connor presented the O'Farrell Cup and the Early Season trophy to Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh. Henry McLaughlin Junior took the Ulster Savings Cup and the first Glenny Cup. Liz and Henry McLaughlin won the Blockhouse Trophy in addition to the CLYC Pennant. B Fleet trophies will be presented at the club Dinghy Regatta in September as it was past bedtime when the Sailing Secretary got round to giving out the trophies!
Sunday Racing
Last Sunday had to be abandoned in squally winds causing multiple capsizes. Race Officer Kieran Cranley wisely flew the chequered flag to send the sailors home before any mishap occurred.
Cruiser Results
Saturday's cruiser results were as follows:
1. Synergy - Chris Cassidy & Pat Dunbar - CLYC
2. Atlantic Diva - Gerry Byrne & John Gray - WBC
3. Humdinger - Michael McCabe – CSC
