CLYC Juniors Have Great Start to Season

The first big Laser event of the year took place last weekend in Baltimore Co Cork. A good squad of CLYC sailors were there. Helen McParland, Paul McParland and Dara O’Connor in the Laser Radials and Henry McLaughlin Junior in his first open Laser Standard event. Helen McParland was on form to take third lady placing in the Radial fleet. O’Connor and Paul McParland also sailed well. McLaughlin was doing well after three races with a 14th, 15th and 30th place out of a fleet of 52. On Sunday he started well with a thirteenth but the last race dragged him down to 23rd overall - second youth. Not bad against the big boys!

There was also a big CLYC squad at the Topper Leinsters in Howth the previous weekend. Conor O'Farrell was 7th overall. Conor Quinn was 14th (and 4th under 14). Anna McNulty was 20th and Stephen Finnegan 27th. Sean Lane, Tom O'Hare, Katie O'Farrell, Rachel McKay and Trudy O'Hare also gained valuable experience and I am sure they are all looking forward to the Topper Ulsters at CLYC in June.

The season kicks off next Sunday, 15th April so dig out your wet suits and check your boat's ready.
