With a large number of juniors away at the Topper Traveller last Sunday a turnout of 13 boats was more than expected. The race officer was faced with light airs which shifted 180 degrees at least 3 times in the afternoon, varying from almost no wind to no wind at all. The first race had to be abandoned when the leading boat had not reached the windward mark in 15 minutes.
The next race was slightly more successful with Tim Gibbons and Paddy Rooney/Catherine McDonagh arriving at the windward mark first. Failing wind meant the course was shortened after 2 laps leaving Gibbons first and Andy Browne and Diane Burgess in second. After a short wait to see if any wind would appear, a third race was attempted but shortened to only 2 legs when the wind fell away all together. Gibbons again took the win from Rooney/McDonagh to prove his light wind mastery.
The all important Lyon Trophy still looks safe in Cranley hands with Tim Gibbons the only likely challenge.
Slow progress at the Start.
