The End of Season Approaches

Possibly the biggest ever squad to travel to a Topper event headed to Donaghadee last Saturday for a Topper Traveller. Two races were held in very light winds. It was a great taster event for the sailors and Conor Quinn collected the prize for 4th under 12, while Stephen Finnegan was third.

Back at the club the following day Ian Roche set out to run the ususal races but when three of the first four boats to launch were rapidly inverted in the force 4 gusting 5 wind he wisely cancelled all racing. A few brave sailors, Tim Gibbons, Paddy Rooney and Catherine McDonagh, Henry McLaughlin Junior, Dara O’Connor and Helen McParland stayed out for a blast while the rest cowered on the shore.

As the end of season approaches most of the silverware is won already. The famous Lyon Trophy while looking safe in Cranley hands could be moved with a concerted effort from Jim Linton or Tim Gibbons.

The B League trophy is being hotly contested with only half a point separating James McNulty and Conor Quinn, Stephen Finnegan and David Corkey in 3rd and fourth respectively could easily make a comeback.

Next weekend is the annual Dinghy Regatta so if you haven’t sailed this year, now is the time to dig out the wetsuit. See the website for sailing instructions.

The following weekend Barry McCartan will be doing a full weekend's coaching for juniors. It's free so make sure you take advantage of this great opportunity to learn from a top coach. It will be great preparation for the RYANI Youth Championships which are on in Larne the following weekend and it looks like we will have a record attendance at this, the premier Northern Irish event this year.
