Battle of Wits between Roche and Cranley Boys
Brian & Kieran Cranley with Ian Roche just behind
On Sunday at CLYC with the well deserved sunshine and fresh sea breeze, a good-sized fleet turned out and Tim Gibbons as Race Officer, set a long and challenging course. In the A-fleet the main battle of wits took place between Ian Roche in a Laser and Kieran and Brian Cranley in a Laser 2000. In the first race, the Cranleys got the best start at the favoured end of the line and held the lead position until the dead run at which point Ian Roche got ahead - but not for long. However the finish was quite close, with only 8 seconds between the Cranleys in first place and Roche in second. More cat-and-mouse tactics were used in Race 2 which was a bit of a reversal with Roche getting the best start while the Cranleys got wedged between two B-fleet Toppers. The Cranleys got round the first mark first and led for much of the race until Ian got ahead on the last reach and managed to hold his close lead through the finish line, again with only seconds between them. These results make Brian and Kieran Cranley leaders in the A-fleet Mid Season, with Ian Roche in second overall and Paddy Rooney/Catherine McDonagh in third place. Sunday’s B-fleet champion was James McNulty with Anna Gilfedder in second and Anna McNulty in third place.
