IDRA 14s, 1st Glenny Cup & Cruiser Races

CLYC was a hive of activity last weekend with the arrival of the IDRA 14 dinghy fleet from Dublin. Two races held on Saturday under the stewardship of Kieran and Brian Cranley left a tie for first place overnight. John White and Terry Rafferty took control on Sunday for the third and fourth races which were to be run in conjunction with the club's 1st Glenny Cup. In the end Alan Carr and Dana Kilroy of Sutton Dinghy Club took the honours with Paddy O’Kelly and John Ring taking the Warrenpoint Trophy.

This was the 15th annual visit of the IDRA 14s for their Irish Northern Championship and the class made a presentation of a hand Carved Model IDRA 14 dinghy to the club.
The Glenny Cup which by tradition goes to Warrenpoint Baths was won by Henry and Liz McLaughlin who took advantage of a big bias on the start line which occurred when the Committee boat slipped back on its anchor. Ian Roche, The Cranley Boys and Paul McParland gave chase but never managed to close the gap. McParland recorded his best result to date in the A Fleet beating the experienced Ian Roche into third place. Only two Topper sailors, David Corkey and Conor Quinn were brave enough to tackle the conditions and both sailed exceptionally well.

Results: 1st Henry & Liz McLaughlin, 2nd Kieran & Brian Cranley, 3rd Paul McParland

Cruiser News
In fickle winds the race last Saturday lasted nearly two hours . Chris Cassidy and Mick Mc Cann sailed a stormer in “Synergy” to take first place with “Humdinger “ in second and Paul Kavanagh in “Aquabat” third.

Spinnakers away on the first Reach.
