Linton Comes to the Fore

On Sunday there was a great turn-out - 27 boats. Conditions were, to say the least, extreme. Setting the course was very difficult, as no sooner was the windward mark laid, than the wind would swing through 90 degrees. Nevertheless, the fleets had two memorable races, albeit with shortened courses. The first race was shortened due to a lack of wind, and the second was shortened because of too much wind. When the Race Officer saw that nine dinghies were capsized all at the same time, the decision was made to get the boats off the water as soon as possible.

In the A-fleet Jim Linton gave top contenders Paddy Rooney and Tim Gibbons a run for their money, beating them by a whisker in the first race, and coming in second in Race 2. The B-fleet races were comfortably won by Conor O'Farrell. The main results were as follows:

Race 1
A-Fleet 1st - Jim Linton, 2nd - Paddy Rooney & Catherine McDonagh, 3rd - Tim Gibbons
B-Fleet 1st - Conor O'Farrell, 2nd - Conor Quinn, 3rd - Katie O'Farrell

Race 2
A-Fleet 1st - Paddy Rooney & Catherine McDonagh, 2nd - Jim Linton, 3rd - Tim Gibbons
B-Fleet 1st - Conor O'Farrell, 2nd - Conor Quinn, 3rd - Stephen Finnegan

The race for the finish - Rooney/McDonagh, Linton and Gibbons in full flight
